The than the average government in the EU” (Hix

The current state of the EU is one which is not
fit for purpose; it cannot create the lasting change that it desires. Britain
has been accused of derailing the European project since it joined. British
members of the European parliament are the most likely to work against the will
of the majority. Indeed, in the Council of Ministers, as
Hix and Hagemann stated “the UK was the member state most likely to vote
against the majority, and substantially more likely than the average government
in the EU” (Hix and Hagemann, 2015). Furthermore,
the UK is generally likely to get their way, with the EU following a policy of
compromise. With Brexit, the EU will now be able to move forward with the
Europe project without UK interference.
