Moreover, there are a set of regulations put in place by several government organization such as International Maritime Organization, Port Authorities of countries, and International Ship and Port Facility Security among others. Following the IPSC code is applicable to all the ships such as passenger ships including high-speed passenger craft, cargo ships, and mobile offshore drilling units. Primarily, the vessels are categorized on the basis of the purpose being served by them. It includes the transportation of cargos, people, peace keeping war fare  and the service ships for assistance. The warships and the service ships are not under our scope. The vulnerability and the extent of risk for the vessels differ on the type of material they carry. Also, depending upon the category of vessel, the selection of the systems along with services being deployed is made. The figure XX illustrates the recorded piracy attacks on various types of vessels providing a clear picture of the vulnerability of the risk pertaining to the type of vessel travelling  through the sea.   FIGURE 3 PIRACY ATTACKS ON VESSELS IMO, BIS Research AnalysisThe International Maritime Organization (IMO) recorded over 190 pirates attacks on the vessels having, the bulk carrier, container, general cargo, chemical and fuel tankers facing the most of threat. Others include fishing vessels and offshore tugs. Among all kinds of ships  the bulk carriers witnessed over 65 attacks till  September of 2015.  FIGURE 4 STATISTICS FOR THE CARGO SHIPMENT  OECD Data and BIS Research Analysis  The data in the table reflects the shift of 17.04% into the number of the vessels transacting through the sea from in the past four years in 2014. Therefore, with the rising figure of the ships, the security requirement takes a surge. The security provisions for the commercial and non  commercial ships vary in nature from the specifications of construction to the security requirements of the vessels. The various types of vessels include commercial and non commercial  vessels which are discussed in the subsequent section.   FIGURE 5 TYPES OF VESSELS BIS Research AnalysisThe vessels are classified depending upon the purpose being served by them. The once used for the purpose of trade and commerce are classified as commercial ships. However, the ships utilized for peace keeping and into defense along with navy are classified as military vessels. Different types of ships and the security system on themCommercial VesselsGeneral cargos, container ships, passenger vessels, and fuel carriers are used in the commercial purposes. The security systems employed on all the different kinds of ships vary according to the carriage. Commercial vessels are primarily categorized as cargo carriers and passenger carriers. Cargo CarriersGeneral cargo carriers are the most frequently moving vessels in the sea for the purpose of transportation of all kinds of goods from groceries to commodities such as oil & gas, chemicals, and ore carriers among others. The subdivision of the type of cargo ships depends on the category of cargo or freight the vessel is carrying. The selection of type of cargo in turn helps in deciding the security systems employed on the vessel. The shift in the demand of materials such as fuel, chemicals, and other commodities affects the shipment volume thus affecting the proliferation of various types of cargos. This shift does not have an influence on the system provider but has a significant effect on the service providers.They are primarily categorized as dry cargo carriers and liquid cargo carriers. Depending upon the nature of cargo being shipped, the security modes, systems and services are applied. Bulk CarriersBulk cargos such as iron ore, coal, minerals, and grains among others are carried by the bulk carriers. They are designed to maximize capacity, efficiency, and safety. The geographical distribution of resources necessities the transportation of bulk carriers or cargos over a long distance since usually the places of production is different from the places of consumption. The growing global trade through sea presents inevitable  demand for the security provided to the bulk carriers.Widely used systems in bulk carriers aredetection  and surveillance systems along with navigation systems. The services providers offer training to the crew present on the bulk carriers for various purposes. That includes loading as well as unloading of cargos, navigational purposes, and maintenance of the machinery along with equipments . APAC has the largest bulker building capabilities in countries such Korea, China, Japan, and others. Amongst APAC region, Korea constitutes for over 80% of the total bulk carriers buildings. Container ShipsThe manufactured goods and products are transported through the container ships all around the world. Due to the square shape of the containers, the volume carried on the vessel decreases. Owing to this fact, the container ships can travel at the sped more than about 20 knots. Therefore, navigation systems along with navigation systems are highly utilized on the vessels since they are highly vulnerable to piracy attacks. Fuel CarriersFuel carriers are also known as tankers, which transport crude oil, chemicals, petroleum, and natural gas. The security requirement onsuch  vessels is  very high, owing to the exposure to piracy attacks. In 2015, out of total piracy attacks on the vessels, over 35% of them were on the chemical and fuel tankers. This makes it necessary to deploy higher level of security  on the tanker or fuel carriers.Navigation and video surveillance systems are exceedingly employed on such vessels. Passenger ShipsThese are the vessels carrying passenger along with vehicles such as cars from one place to another.Biometric, access control, and analytics based video surveillance are most broadly used systems on the passenger ships. The passenger ships are categorized as ferries, yachts, and cruise ships among others. Specialised vessels are equipped with machineries  and equipmeperform tasks such as cable lying , drilling, fire fighting, and pipe laying among others. They are highly loaded vessels which make it necessary for them to be secured. The service provider in the maritime industry is highly active in providing training to the forces deployed on such vessels.
