How to Increase Traffic on Your Website for Free!

Unlike convincing someone to walk into the front door of your business, finding affordable or free ways to attract viewers to your website requires different marketing strategies and a bit of creativity.

Although your website is available constantly and easily accessible, learning how to increase traffic on your website for free is very useful especially when you are starting out with zero or no budget for marketing and can open new doors and possibilities.

Utilizing Social Sharing Platforms Efficiently

Facebook has more than 2 billion monthly active users. That number is more than the combined population of China, USA, Japan, and Germany. The undeniable power of social media puts you on a stage where you can potentially reach out to these billions of users all around the world for free.

The key is using social media effectively and efficiently. Equally, important is to identify where your target audience is most active, and which platform to use for your promotional material.

A trendy hash-tag would be perfect for Twitter, while a powerful picture would be best for Instagram.

A Catchy Headline Can Up Your Game

People want things to be fast and easy at first glance. That is a part of what makes Facebook so powerful. It contains the important information and is easily accessible but then also has more detail for those who want to dive a little deeper.

While advertising your website, work to make your headline essentially eye-catching, yet effective. Headlines can contain a lot of information that will bog the reader down or just enough to get the reader interested in what you have to say.

Consider Blogging as a Guest

Increasing your involvement as a guest blogger on other websites can help you to bring more people to your own. Search for those sites that are more reputable and have a consumer base that is similar to what you would like on your own website.

Become social and start guest blogging tastefully without over advertising yourself and risking fines or penalties.

Create Your Own Guest Blog

Drawing attention to your website can be as easy as extending an invitation. By creating your own guest blog and inviting people to join in and express their opinions, you can quickly bring more people to your site that will often advertise you through word-of-mouth.

Promote this blog on social media, and you will be doubling your efforts. Maintaining control of your blog is crucial to keeping people coming back to your website.

Writing on Forums like Quora

Quora is one of the biggest general questions and answer sites on the web today, although there are other well-known forums like Wiki Answers and for more technical topics, Stack Exchange.

Utilizing a platform like Quora to drive increased traffic to your website is not a onetime thing. The key here is that you can establish yourself as an expert and authority figure.

Consistently providing great answers to the questions posted on these forums can increase your reputation and name recognition, help you develop a following, and ultimately drive more traffic to your website.

Need not mention the amazing content ideas you can get just by scrolling through these communities within your niche.

Use Your LinkedIn

A powerful yet incredibly underestimated networking tool is LinkedIn. There are surprising amounts of individuals, business, and entrepreneurs on this platform that frequently looks through the feed.

By promoting your website, blog, and posting frequent updates through LinkedIn, you can put your content into new groups of potential clientele. LinkedIn also has a great way of creating internal links as it does have its own linking feature.

How Accessible Is Your Site?

If you want things at the touch of your hand and easily accessible on your smartphone, so do people visiting your website. Making your site accessible can be as easy as updating the design or it can be a little more complicated.

Make sure you use a good hosting and plugins that reduce the loading time of your website both on desktop and mobile because just like you and me, no one likes “slow” websites today.

Measure Your Data

I had read somewhere, “If You ain’t Measuring, You ain’t Improving”.

Before you can effectively increase the traffic on your website, you first have to know how your website is performing.

Measuring your website data allows you to determine your website effectiveness and help you identify where and how you can increase engagement with your potential customers.

Using tools like Google Analytics can help you find out whether you are reaching your target audience. You can then use this analysis to better direct your marketing.

Optimize for SEO

Search engine optimization is a basic requirement in online marketing. The point is simple – to make it easy for your potential customers to find your website.

Having a great website design will not be a lot of help if your target market has to go to the tenth search results page when they search using keywords related to your business (and no one would do that in the first place).

The goal is to have your website shown as one of the top search results. Learn about On-Page and Off-Page SEO and how to use them effectively.

Low Hanging Fruits – Use Long Tail Keywords

In the digital marketing world, long tail keywords are considered as low hanging fruits. Long tail keywords are specific search phrases consisting of three words or longer.

People now tend to be very specific when searching the internet. Using long tail keywords that specifically describe your product can mean that when people use that exact phrase to search, your website will be among the top-ranked search results.

Researching for a keyword term that can get you rank can be a tricky process but there are several tools which do the job perfectly. One of the tools I love is Jaaxy Keyword Research Tool.

Yes, yes… I know Google Plus is also a Social Sharing Platform and I have already covered that in the article above but there is a special reason to mention Google+ specifically.

Google is the biggest Search Engine and Google+ is one of their services. Don’t you think there would be an additional advantage of sharing your posts on Google Plus?

I have noticed that the articles that have been shared (+1) well on G+ have been able to rank well in google.

Obviously, Google doesn’t say that officially, but hey, there’s no harm in sharing your blogs to one more Social Network, right? You can join different communities in your niche and even make your own community and grow it.

In fact, I would advise you all to create a Google+ account and keep it active.

Be Prepared to Respond

Communication is different today than it used to be. Only ten years ago, not replying to an email, message or letter was considered a sign of rudeness for some cultures.

A personal response today stands out, especially to followers and customers. To bring more people to your website, be active in your socialization.

Make sure to respond to people who post comments when you promote your content via social media. Realize that sometimes that may mean biting your tongue and thanking them for the criticism.

Final Thoughts for Today

With a bit of work and creativity, increasing traffic to your website can be free and easy. As you think of ways to advertise, keep in mind where you spend your time.

It is always to a good idea to create different strategies and test them instead of blindly doing everything and not knowing what is working and what is not.

Whether it is social media, or email marketing, catering to your followers or client base will help you to make your website more accessible and desirable.

    1. Hi Luna,

Glad that you liked it and thanks for your question. It’s a very good question.

Finding out where your audience hangs out isn’t difficult and the chances of getting it right are great.

You must know, who your ideal audience is? What age group are they in? What do they like? What do they don’t like? and the list goes on…

The more you know about your audience, the more likely you will be able to relate to them.

Also, most people use facebook but if you know your audience well, you would be able to come up with groups/forums on Facebook where your audience likes to hang out and similarly for other platforms.

      Hope that answered your question.

Let me know if you have any more of those “great” questions.

      Cheers!

  2. Hi Anubhav,

This certainly covers all the finer nuances for getting traffic and free traffic at that to one’s site.

So many fine points of advice I could write many lines in response.

However, Quora! People, get on QUORA as they are asking questions 24/7 and there is no reason why you can’t become one of the go-to guys for answers. Heed the advice in this article and you will not go far wrong.

And yes! Another excellent point among many is to post on G+! It helps with rankings as well as Google will like you more if you are actively using their services rather than twitter etc – it just makes sense.

Thank you for this amazing post and I know it is already an incredible resource for many.

    Regards,

    Philip.
