There are quite a few ways you can use to display Amazon products on your page depending on how you like it.

Links – You can create a link to any product and embed that into your content to enhance your site. Simply browse and select the type of product you’d like to add, and then follow instructions to get started.

Banners – Amazon has a lot of stylish graphical banners with different size and shapes that you can add to your site displaying some ongoing offers at Amazon. When a visitor clicks and buys the product, you earn a referral bonus.

How to Sign Up for Amazon Affiliate Program?

You need to have a website/blog to start with. It will work even if the site is brand new with only a few pages and posts. If you don’t own one already, create your own website for free first.

It is easy and absolutely free to join Amazon Affiliate Program and become their associate. Simply go to affiliate.amazon.com or affiliate.amazon.in, depending upon your targeted country and sign up for the program. You can sign up for more than one country too. You will be asked to enter your website/blog information, like what it is about and why do you want to join this program. Answer them and wait for the approval email which normally doesn’t take more than an hour.

Once you get the confirmation email, log into the Associates Central and go through their short tour to know how to use the site.

Track Report & Earn More

Amazon provides easy to read reports that contain extensive data about the activity of your links to empower you to optimize your performance in the program. This information includes details on your traffic, revenue, earnings, conversion rates, and link types. Up to date reports ensure you have the information you need to maximize the earning potential of your site.

You can know better about your customers, identify their preferences, and earn more by using that information.

Things to keep in mind about Amazon Affiliate Program

  • Referring fee differs from product to product and country to country. Make sure you read the Advertising Fee Schedule for the country you sign up for.
  • You must identify your site in your application.
  • You will be solely responsible for your site, including its development, operation, and maintenance and all materials that appear on or within it.
  • You earn advertising fees on any qualifying items placed in a customer’s Shopping Cart within 24 hours of their arrival at Amazon via your Associate’s link. However, this 24-hour window closes once the customer submits his order or re-enters Amazon through another Associate’s link. Once the window is closed, you will not earn advertising fees on any subsequent purchases. However, if the customer then returns to Amazon through one of your Associate’s links, this opens a new 24-hour window.
  • It is, of course, possible that a customer may arrive at Amazon via your Associate’s link, add an item to his Shopping Cart, and then leave Amazon without placing an order. As long as the item was added to the customer’s Shopping Cart during this 24-hour window, you will still earn a referral fee if the order is placed before the Shopping Cart expires (usually after 90 days). The referral fee will not be credited to your Associate’s account until the customer has purchased the item, accepted delivery, and remitted full payment to Amazon.
  • You can withdraw your earnings via a bank transfer, Amazon gift card, or cheque after reaching the threshold value.

  1. Very good information here about amazon affilate program.
Each country have its own affiliate program correct? I live in Europe and I thought to registered with the Uk Amazon but the United States Amazon has much more potential.
Can I put 2 links for the same product? One link for people to buy in US and one for European to buy in UkAmazon?

  2. Thanks for this great article.
I am just starting to check out affiliate programs and I guess Amazon is the easiest, do you know if they require anything special from a website/blog before they approve it?

I have researched Amazon, and I am considering it.

    1. Hi Kevin,

There are a lot of fishes in the ocean of Affiliate Marketing and we should absolutely look out to find the one that works the best for us.
Thank you for putting across your views.

      Cheers!

  4. Hi Anubhav, this is a great read and very informative.

I am just about to try to start working with Amazon Affiliates, I have signed up but have not yet managed to get anything done with it.

I was a little worried by some of the news recently about the reductions in commission paid by Amazon and am still confused on how to go about making it work with international customers.

    Thanks for the insights.

    Neil

    1. Hi Neil,

Amazon is not the best when it comes to commissions but we all are aware of the fact that most people who buy things online goes through Amazon at least once. It has a great variety of products to choose from and you can trust them.

They have a great customer support for their Associates too. So, if you are facing issues you can write them an email and get it resolved. Look for “Contact Us” on the Associates Central.

For International customers – Sign up for that particular country’s amazon site. For example, if you want to sign up for USA, you need to go to affiliate.amazon.com.
      All The Best 🙂

      Cheers!

  5. Do you get the same level of commission on every product regardless of the price of it? What happens if my visitor doesn’t buy my product but buys other items and continues shopping?

    1. Hi David,

The commission % varies from product to product.
You may earn an advertising fee for any qualifying items placed in a customer’s shopping cart during a 24-hour window. This window begins at the time a visitor clicks through your Associates link. However, the session window will close if the customer submits their order or reenters Amazon.com through another Associate’s link.

Once the session expires, any additional purchases will not earn advertising fees for your Associates account. If the customer returns to Amazon.com through your Associates link, this will generate a new session window. As long as the item was added to the shopping cart during the session window, you’ll earn advertising fees on this item even if the actual order is placed several weeks later.

      Hope it helps 🙂

      Cheers!

  6. Affiliate Marketing can be a great way to earn some extra money, but how do we really get people to our website and turn those readers into buyers?

    1. Hi Josephine,

That’s all the fight about! 😉
So, if you have a blog/website you need to work towards getting it ranked on google’s first page and share it on social media. When people will see your website on top and it is relevant to their search, they will visit your site looking for more information. That’s when your skill comes into picture. If your site visitors like the product you are talking about, they will most probably click through the link.

You cannot have a 100% conversion rate but you can always work towards better.
This is a never-ending-learning process. I keep up the pace with all the new information/ways/ideas by being a part of Wealthy Affiliate Community.

Hope this was of some help.

      Cheers!

  7. I love the Amazon partner Program, I’m curious if you’ve ever tried the “native Shopping Ads” or if you are stuck mostly with the standard affiliate links.

    1. Hi Wenda,

I mostly do product reviews/recommendation on my site “Best Skin-Care for Men” for which I use affiliate links to specific products. Have tried and still experimenting with Native Shopping Ads though.
Thank you for stopping by. 🙂

      Cheers!

  8. Hi,
Very informative article. I have a question, though. I tried registering but I can’t get the verification code. I’ve tried several times placing country area code with my phone number. I tried using both my Cel phone number and my landline number but when I ask for the call I get an error. I have gotten verification sms from other programs with my Cel phone. Do you know if there is any other way to get the verification? Maybe using an email address.
    Thank you.

  9. I am actually a member amazon affiliate and there has not been much sales yet and I wonder about other affiliate programs like Ebay. As you may know it has 30-days cookies. Lately I heard so many new examples about their successful affiliates.

Do you think that will Ebay’s 30-days cookies be more lucrative than Amazon’s 1 day cookies? By the way my niche is sub category of sports.

    1. Hi Furkan,

I haven’t singed up for Ebay yet but if they have products that you review/recommend with a better service like a 30-Days Cookies or a better commission; it is always better to take that advantage.
      All the best 🙂

      Cheers!

  10. Gahh! I lost my Amazon affiliate account because I was too inactive so I have to re-register again. But it’s pretty easy to get it set up.
What do you think about the commissions? %5 always seemed kinda small to me. But I’ve see quite a few people do large quantities and hit 6 figures.
Actually, the good thing about it is that whatever the customer buys, you get credit for I believe. That’s how you can earn additional unexpected commissions. And a 30 day cookie if I remember.
    Nice.

    1. Hi Steven,

Yes, it’s kinda smooth to sign up for the Amazon’s Affiliate Program.
I agree that the commission is quite low. Well, it’s not fixed at 5% but goes up to 10-12% for some products. You should always check their Advertising Schedule page to know what’s their current plan.

If a customer visits Amazon through your affiliate link the cookie remains good for 24 hours but if they add the product in their cart, you get the credit if they buy it in next 90 days.
Hope this was of some help.

      Cheers! 🙂

  11. Hello Anubhav, thanks for enlightening me on how to become an affiliate of Amazon. Amazon being a well know market place world wide this seems like a good and sure way to earn an income. I do suppose you will have to purchase and use the product/s you are promoting to be able to do good reviews on them? Alternatively, since most of us buy Amazon’s products we can promote those we have already used and like One downside I have heard a few people commenting online is that the affiliate % is very small. I saw up to 12% on your post. I was told it’s even smaller. Is that because of the price of the product or it’s simply the sellers’ decision and you have to shop around to see who offers the highest %?

    Thank you for the post.

    1. Hi EJ,

If you are doing a product review it is always recommended to use the product first. It gives you the confidence and you would know exactly what you want to tell people about the product. But as you mentioned, our niche is mostly something we are familiar with and have used products under that category which makes it easier to begin with.

The commission % varies from product to product and country to country. This is solely Amazon’s call and has no input from the Seller. You gotta check their Advertising Schedule page for current fee.
Hope to see you around. 🙂

      Cheers!

  12. Hello,

Quick question, when is the best time to sign up for this? I heard that Amazon cancels your membership if you don’t make a sale within 30 days. (or maybe longer).

Can you also confirm if that is true?

    Thanks!

    1. Hi Von,

You can submit an application when you have a website ready with at least 3-4 pages and posts.
An application will be withdrawn if there are no referrals for 180 days after an application has been submitted but you can always apply again.

      Cheers!
